Teaching goals

1.Most students know these important words and phrases and their pronunication.

Ancient, compete, take patr in, stand for, medal, volunteer, basis, regular, athlete, admit, gymnastics, stadium, as well, host, responsibility, replace, motto, swift

2.The students can know more knowledge about Olympic Games, not only the ancient Games but also the modern Games.

2.1. They know the knowledge about the origin of the ancient Olympic Games.( time,place.....)

2.2. They also know the knowledge of modern Olympic Games.( motto,events......)

3. Most of the students can get useful information from different reading skills (scanning and skimming). Most of them know the difference and similarities between the ancient Olympic Games and the modern Olympic Games..

4. Some of the students can finish the summary of the passage correctly in certain time.

Step I.  Lead-in

T: Good morning, everyone. This class we begin learning something about Olympic Games, I believe you are familiar with it. And how much do you know about it?. Do the following questions.

1. When did the ancient Olympic Games started?

Task1. As we know, the next Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, let's know more information about it.

  The five mascots are officially called the Five Friendlies. They are Beibei, the fish; Jingjing, the panda;        Huanhuan, the Olympic flame; Yingying, the Tibetan antelope; and Nini, the swallow. The first syllables from their two-syllable names form a line that reads” Beijing Huanying Ni”, or in English –“Welcome to Beijing”

Task2 . Listen to a song.

T: Now listen to a English song, and talk about something about it.(several minutes later)

The song is Hand in hand, which was sung in Olympic Games in Korean in 1988.
